Level 1
Begin with chords, strumming, and rhythm to play your first bluegrass tune with ease. Build strong foundations with basic chords, good habits, and a classic bluegrass song. Start your journey with posture, strumming, and a full song using G and C chords.
Level 2
Explore melody, bass runs, and rhythm through simple scales and classic folk tunes. Develop tone, groove, and musicality with folk bass runs and well-loved songs. Learn folk melodies and rhythm skills while playing in the keys of C and G.
Level 3
Explore melody, double stops, and alternate picking through classic folk tunes. Blend chords and melody while building skill with alternate picking and double stops. Strengthen tone, technique, and theory with classic tunes and thoughtful picking.
Level 4
Enhance rhythm and lead playing with slides, G-runs, fills, and thoughtful pick strokes. Explore classic fiddle tunes using hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, and G-run phrasing. Develop expressive lead skills with capo use, pick stroke clarity, and sliding techniques.
Level 5
Explore iconic fiddle tunes using triads, harmonies, and expressive lead techniques. Bring melodies to life with bass lines and harmonized scales, as you learn more classic fiddle tunes. Build melodic depth with triads, harmony, and phrasing in advanced fiddle tunes.
Level 6
Explore crosspicking, barre chords, and open D tuning to enrich your rhythm playing. Discover how open D and crosspicking add depth and color to your rhythm playing. Develop smooth rhythm flow using barre chords, rolls, and open tunings.
Level 7
Build soloing finesse with triplets, hybrid picking, and classic bluegrass phrasing. Refine your technique with crosspicking, pull-offs, and expressive soloing tools. Learn advanced picking tools and techniques to add character to your bluegrass solos.
Level 8
Explore advanced rhythm and lead skills through modern and expressive fiddle tunes. Build strong rhythm and lead technique with fresh, contemporary bluegrass pieces. Learn melodic and rhythmic parts from progressive tunes like “Flippen” and “The 11th Reel.”
About Bluegrass Guitar with Chris Eldridge
Chris Eldridge has created a definitive video library that includes hundreds of online guitar lessons. Students have unlimited access to Chris' entire guitar method, plus play-along tracks, and other study materials. What ultimately sets these guitar lessons apart from other online offerings however, is the ability to submit a video for review using the ArtistWorks Video Exchange learning platform. Chris Eldridge reviews each submission and records a video response, offering tips about how to progress. About Chris Eldridge
Widely considered one of the premier acoustic guitarists of the modern era, Chris “Critter” Eldridge has cofounded and performed around the globe with some of the most prolific groups in the modern bluegrass scene. Most commonly known as the guitarist and co-founding member of the Grammy award-winning bluegrass outfit, Punch Brothers, Chris has brought his unique acoustic guitar stylings to a handful of bluegrass’ most successful and influential groups, including acclaimed jamgrass quintet, The Infamous Stringdusters, seminal bluegrass group, The Seldom Scene, and Chris Thile’s Live from Here radio show house band, to name a few. In addition to eight Grammy nominations to date and one Grammy win in 2018, Chris was named “Instrumentalist of the Year” by the Americana Music Association in 2019. Throughout his illustrious career, Chris has had the opportunity to work with some of the biggest names in pop, bluegrass, rock, and jazz, including Paul Simon, Renée Fleming, John Paul Jones, Marcus Mumford, Justin Timberlake, T-Bone Burnett, Jon Brion, Fiona Apple, The War and Treaty, Jerry Douglas, I’m With Her, and Del McCoury. He also performs in an acoustic duo alongside jazz guitar virtuoso Julian Lage. Like many world-class guitar players, Chris calls Nashville, TN his home and has been teaching at ArtistWorks since October 2021.
