About Missy Raines

M

Bassist Missy Raines has been honored as IBMA's "Bass Player of the Year" 9 times, more than any other bass player in bluegrass history and she was the first woman to do so. (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2019, and 2020). Her most recent album, Royal Traveller, was nominated for a Grammy for "Best Bluegrass Album" in 2020. In 2018, Missy's version of, ”Swept Away”, (Royal Traveller), received the IBMA "Recorded Event of the Year" award, and in 2019 her rendition of the bluegrass classic, "Darlin' Pal(s) of Mine", (Royal Traveller), received IBMA’s "Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year" award. Though Missy's career began as a bass player for many of bluegrass' 1st and 2nd generation icons such as Eddie Adcock, Jesse McReynolds, Kenny Baker, and Claire Lynch, Missy has spent the last decade as a bandleader, singer, and acclaimed songwriter. In 2020, she was co-writer of IBMA's "Song of the Year”, for "Chicago Barn Dance”, along with Becky Buller and Alison Brown. In 2019, Missy was featured in the "American Currents" exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, TN.
